What is the Invest Steuben Awards?
Annually, the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) holds an event called the Invest Steuben Awards. This event, in conjunction with our annual meeting; is designed to support and honor those area industries that in the prior year continued to decide to invest in our community. Those that are considered for the awards are industrial projects that meet one of the Top Micropolitan criteria. Historically, Steuben County, and specifically the City of Angola, has had a long run of being ranked on the Top 100 Micropolitan list. In 2023, Angola ranked 3rd (the highest they have ever ranked) due to the number of investments that qualified.
How do projects qualify?
Using the Top Micropolitan criteria, a project must be an industrial project and meet one of the three criteria below:
- Investment of more than $1 million in CapEx
- Bring 20 new jobs
- Add 20,000 sq. ft. of new construction
How does the SCEDC learn of the projects?
In addition to working closely with companies on expansion and attraction projects where local incentives might be used; the SCEDC will reach out to all industries in early November to request all capital expansions. Additionally, we will ask for some other pieces of information that relate to those projects at the time.
