Quality of Life

Steuben County is blessed with a great quality of life. Heard that before? No doubt you have but we're serious! In the heart of Steuben County, downtown Angola offers a picturesque and thriving small town appeal. With an active arts community, abundant restaurant scene and active business community, including two first-run movie theaters, you'll quickly see why this downtown is a hit for residents and visitors alike. Having over 1,800 full-time Trine University students here nine out of the 12 months of the year only adds to the vitality.

In fact, this just begins to describe the quality of life found in Northern Indiana Lakes Country. The seasonal lake residents contribute to vibrant downtowns in Ashley/Hudson, Hamilton, Fremont and Orland as well. A wide variety of local pubs and eateries are found throughout the community, many with distinctive atmospheres, cuisine and entertainment. We also serve as a regional retail hub, with many local and national stores, including the Outlet Shoppes at Fremont.

There's more! Steuben County is home to the State's largest collection of natural lakes, providing outdoor recreation opportunities for every taste. The Pokagon State Park and Potawatomi Inn represent one of the finest state-owned recreational properties in Indiana. The 1,260 acre property will soon be expanded to include the 180 acre Trine State Recreation Area, including more cabin rental, nature trails and fishing.

Residents of Steuben County enjoy much more! The Cameron Memorial Community Hospital will conclude a major $48 million campus and building expansion project in 2014, including a new $8 million medical office building. The Tri-State Steuben County Airport completed a new $1.6 million terminal and hanger project in 2012, providing superior service for area pilots and visiting aircraft and pilots. Local school corporations offer excellent opportunities for many career paths, be it directly into the trades or college bound.

There's more to tell you about the quality of life in Steuben County ... we just ran out of room!
