ANGOLA — Due to increased demand for its Lego robotics camps, Trine University has added camps at locations in Albion, Garrett and Bryan, Ohio.

That means the university will be offering the camps at eight different venues in three states this year.

“With the growing demand at the elementary and secondary school level for opportunities to build STEM skills, Trine University and Trine Innovation 1 have seen a huge increase in demand for LEGO robotics camps,” said Karen Morthorst, operations assistant at Innovation 1.

The popularity has led to rapid growth in the program.

“Three years ago, we only offered three camps here at the university, but we wanted to reach out into the communities that Trine serves. As a result, we are offering 31 camps this year at locations covering eight counties in three states,” Morthorst said. “This year’s camps are also supported through a grant from the Rich and Laura Clifton Fund and the Danny and Bill Fund at the Steuben County Community Foundation as well as corporate partnerships.”

The new camps will be held at St. Joseph Catholic School in Garrett from June 17-20, Central Noble Elementary School in Albion from July 8-11, and Bryan Elementary School from July 22-25. The St. Joseph camp will serve ages 6-14 in one camp from 8 a.m. to noon. Central Noble Elementary School will host two camps: one from 8 a.m. to noon for ages 6-8 and one from 1-5 p.m. for ages 9-11.
