Construction career workshop next week

ANGOLA — The Steuben County Economic Development Corp. is hosting a Construction Career Workshop next week.

This is a one-day hands-on workshop for high school juniors and seniors to experience career opportunities in the construction trades at The Enterprise Center, 907 S. Wayne St., Angola. The event will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The workshop will educate high school students about construction industry career options and help bridge the gap for them from classrooms to jobsites, said an SCEDC news release.

With 11 contractors participating, students will be able to experience the difference sides of construction careers. With hands-on demonstrations, students will also be able to see what skills and abilities are needed to pursue a construction career. Students will also meet with local construction employers who are eager to hire young people.

This program is only for high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in pursuing a career in construction who want to build their knowledge of the broad variety of trades and professional occupations used by contractors today, the news release said. Students will be selected by their teachers and counselors based on interest. Enrollment is limited, with 60 spots available.

Contractors who will be participating include: Strebig Construction, Wagler & Associates, Ross Electrical, Carr Masonry, Pranger Enterprises, King Concrete, Armstrong Heating & Cooling, JICI, Jack Laurie, Ivy Tech Community College and Freedom Academy.
