ANGOLA — More than 200 students were able to take advantage of a centralized Manufacturing Day held on the campus of The Enterprise Center.

Four schools were represented at the event and 17 Steuben County area manufacturers attended to tell students about career opportunities at their companies.

“We’re really pleased with the response from the schools and the companies. The turnout is very good,” said Jessica Christen, office manager with the Steuben County Economic Development Corp., sponsor of the event along with the Steuben Industrial Guild.

The local event was an effort to draw greater attention to today’s manufacturing environment and the opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide.

The goal of the event is to showcase local manufacturing for the purpose of enhancing the perception of manufacturing, increasing awareness and pride of our manufacturing community and educating area youth on manufacturing career pathways.

Angola Middle School, Angola High School, Fremont Middle School and Hamilton High School students attended. In addition, Freedom Academy, Ivy Tech and the Questa Foundation representatives were on hand to provide information about career pathways.

In addition, tours were held of The Enterprise Center, including a classroom presentation provided by SCEDC Executive Director Isaac Lee.

Companies on hand to showcase their product lines and discuss career opportunities included: RR Donnelley, Triton Metal Products, RISE, Koester Metals Inc., Eva-Lution, Pro Resources, Ashley Industrial Molding, Western Consolidated, Technologies, Vestil Manufacturing, Univertical, AZZ Galvanizing, Miller Poultry, Letica Corp., Angola Wire Products, Lagrange Products, Tenneco and Autoform Tool & Manufacturing.

Typically Manufacturing Day is observed on the first Friday of October. It was held on Thursday in Steuben County to coordinate with local schools and their busy schedules, Lee said. Today, another Manufacturing Day event will be held at Triton Metal Products, Hamilton.
