Cardinal IG receives VPP Star Certification
FREMONT — Cardinal IG is one of only 90 businesses in the state of Indiana to receive the Voluntary Protection Program Star Certification award from the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
A ceremony was held Wednesday at Cardinal IG, 301 McSwain Drive, honoring the plant with a certificate and a flag identifying them as a VPP Star work site.
Indiana Deputy Commissioner of Labor Tim Maley made the presentation to Cardinal Plant Manager Mike Connell and a room full of Cardinal employees, noting that Cardinal is one of the safest workplaces in the United States.
“You earned this award,” Maley said.
Connell said Cardinal began its journey toward the certification about 20 months ago.
“We were on a journey to make us safer not only for us but for what we’re here to do...to go home without any injury,” he said.
Fremont Town Council President Steve Brown read a proclamation during the ceremony congratulating Cardinal on its achievement and designating May 2 as Cardinal IG Day in the town of Fremont.
OSHA’s VPP program began in 1998 and is designed to promote work site safety and health, by establishing a comprehensive safety and health management system with cooperative relationships between OSHA, workplace management and labor.
